Admission Rules & Regulation

A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent Examination is eligible to seek admission to the 1" year of the 3-year B.A.!B.Sc/ B.Com. (Hons./General/ Major) or B.Mus.(Hons./ General) Course of Studies provided he/she has also passed in English having full marks not beings less than 100. Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Vocational examination conducted by the West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education and Training shall be eligible to seek admission to the B.A (General/Major) l" year Course of Studies taking the subjects under Humanities Division only. However, candidates who have passed the aforesaid H.S. Examination in Business & Commerce shall also be eligible for admission to the B. Com. (General/Major) I" year Course of Studies under this University. However, no candidate shall be allowed for admission after a lapse of more than 5 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination or discontinuation of recognized regular Course of Studies after passing the previous qualifying examination

(Explanation: The year of admission shall not be taken into account while calculating five years from the year of passing the previous qualifying Examination).

For the purpose of determining eligibility for admission to the Honours Course, aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks in top-four subjects in order of marks secured by a candidate. However, marks in compulsory Environmental Education Studies shall not be taken into account for calculation of aggregate marks. If the subject" Environmental Science" is studied as an elective subject of 100 marks. it may be taken into account for the purpose of determining the aggregate marks.

a) A candidate taking up Honours Course in a subject must have obtained:

  • A minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination [in case of B.Mus. (Hons.) 45% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the subject Music, in the pre-qualifying examination]
Or
  • 55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination [in case ofB.Mus.(Hons) 50% marks in the subject at the pre-qualifying exam.]

Or
  • 50% marks in the aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject in his/her previous qualifying examination provided all other clauses are satisfied [in case ofB.Mus.(Hons.) - 45% marks in the aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject Music in the pre?qualifying exam. Candidates shall be admitted on the basis of the Admission Test to be conducted by the College authority concerned.]
  • For S.C. / S.T. Students
  • 40% in Aggregate OR 40% in the concerned subject in which Honours is desired
    • Group- I : Physics, Zoology, Education, Home Science Extention Education, Social Science, Film Studies, Physical Education, Human Rights, Russian, Women Studies.
    • Group- II : Human Development, History, Ancient Indian and World History, Islamic History & Culture, Mathematics, Environmental Science.
    • Group- III : Chemistry, Sociology, Defence Studies, Music, Household Art, Pali, Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit, Bio-Chemistry.
    • Group- IV : Botany, Economics, Food & Nutrition. Group- V: Geology, Political Science, Electronics.
    • Group-Vl : Geography, Molecular Biology, Psychology, Philosophy, Microbiology, Journalism & Mass Communication.
    • Group- VIr : Statistics, Physiology, English
    • Group- VIII: Anthropology, Computer Science, Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, French, Linguistics

 

Rules and Document Necessary For Admission

  • Photo card of Madhyamik Examination / Marksheet of I.C.S.E. / C.S.S.E Registration Certificate.
  • Admit Card of H.S. / I.S.C (+2) / C.B.S. Examination or any Boadr recognized by Calcutta University.
  • Registration Certificates of H.S. examination.
  • Original Migration Certificate for student coming from any board other than H.S. Council.
  • Mark sheet of the H.S. Examination / +2 Examination of any board or council recognized by C.U.
  • Transfer / School Leaving Certificates for the student from the Head of the institution last attended.
  • Original SC/ST/OBC Certificate for students belonging to the reserved category.

After the publication of the merit list candidates whose names will feature in the list must themselves admitted within the stipulated date. Failure to do so will mean automatic cancellation of the name from the merit list. The vacancies remaining after the stipulated date will be filled by the candidates whose names feature in the second merit list. At no point of time the merit list will be violated.

Candidates who apply for Honours Courses, yet are unable to secure admission to the honours course may get themselves admitted to the General Courses. If vacancy remains, these candidates will be considered for honours courses.
